Coldwater Creek to close centers, slashes jobs

SANDPOINT, Idaho, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Catalog retailer Coldwater Creek Inc. (NasdaqNM:CWTR - news) on Thursday said its chief financial officer resigned and announced it would close its distribution center at its Idaho corporate headquarters, affecting 120 workers.

The troubled seller of women's apparel, citing the downturn in the U.S. economy, said it also plans to shutter two clearance outlet locations by March 1, and will cut 80 more positions among its national retail staff.

Coldwater Creek Chairman and co-founder Dennis Pence said the company will start setting restructuring plans, resulting in a reduction of about 20 salaried employees at its headquarters in Sandpoint, Idaho.

The company, which last month warned of lower third quarter earnings and a fourth-quarter loss
, said it will now conduct all catalog, Internet and retail store distribution from its facility in Parkersburg, West Virginia. The facility closures and job cuts are expected to be completed by the end of March.

In addition, Chief Financial Officer Donald Robson has resigned to pursue other opportunities, the company said. Deena Presnell, the company's corporate controller, will assume the post until a replacement is named.
