I work in the computer field and I have led many a group on a project. I have been responsible in a number of cases for the technical say in putting together groups to solve a problem. The people I have worked with have been Hindus, Hispanics, whites, blacks etc. I always hired the best people and in most cases they were not white. We all worked together in a great manner to achieve a common goal. In a few cases I have brought people over to my consulting group and they were non-white, both immigrants and foreign born US citizens. The computer field is a great example of diverse ethnic people working together in harmony.We share a common bond and that is to work together to produce a product. Look equal rights for women were not achieved over night were they ? Indeed many feel the goal is not yet completely achieved. Blacks fought hard for civil rights and equal protection under the laws. These are cultural achievements. We cannot have people coming into the country now to seek shelter under our freedom and prosperous economy and yet at the same time tell them they don't need to learn what are the founding principles of culture that have allowed us to achieve these goals. We do have a culture. You liberals worked hard to achieve it. It is the culture off freedom and the individual worth of a human being. It is almost unique to the history of the world. I also participated in the marches and the fight for this evolution of the US ideals. When I challenged you to name these cultural items it was to force you to see that you cant say multi-culturalis when the other cultures almost all believe that women should have no rights. Are the police to have one set of laws for white (the God race) but another for the other cultures. Is it ok for the Moslem community to stone women to death for adultery ? Get my drift. Multi-ethnic yes. People of different race yes. But not conflicting cultures or the flippant chanting of meaningless phrases to support that notion. Should we study other ideas of different groups. Yes of course. Then we should debate them and judge their merit. You should judge them with the same skepticism that you judge anything put forth by Jerry Falwell. At the same time we should be working to assimilate the newly arrived immigrants into this country. At home they can choose to eat chapatis or tofu or whatever. But at school they should learn English and the history and culture of the land they came to. Let me know what you think of this and what you see as wrong in what I have stated.
