On July 13th, we'll be celebrating our 65th birthday! On that day in 1937, Vernon Rudolph, the founder of Krispy Kreme, made and sold the first Krispy Kreme doughnuts at a store in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The original store was located in a building across from Salem Academy and College in what is now called historic Old Salem. At first, the business was primarily delivery -- selling doughnuts to local grocery stores. Soon, however, people began stopping by the shop to ask if they could buy hot doughnuts. The demand was so great that Rudolph opened the shop for retail business by cutting a hole in the shop's wall so he could sell the doughnuts. And the rest, as they say, is history. --------------------------------------- Fundraising The fundraising industry is a huge business in the United States with sales in the billions of dollars each year. Krispy Kreme was one of the first products made available to groups for fundraising purposes and has not only survived in this very competitive industry but has continued to grow. During 2001, Krispy Kreme Fundraising programs in all our stores helped schools, churches and organizations throughout the nation raise over $25 million to fund programs and field trips, buy equipment and uniforms, build playgrounds and support a variety of charitable endeavors. Krispy Kreme has a variety of fundraising programs available. Check with your local store for details. In addition to fundraising, Krispy Kreme has several incentive programs designed to encourage school children to achieve. Our "Good Grades Program" rewards elementary school children with a free Original Glazed doughnut for every "A" they receive. Our "Stick With It Kids" program can be used by teachers to help their students track and reach specific goals. A doughnut poster and sprinkles are provided to the teacher. The students decorate the poster with sprinkles as each student reaches the goal. Once the poster has been completed, the teacher trades the poster for two dozen doughnuts to treat the students. Most, but not all, stores participate in our Good Grades and Stick With It Kids programs so please call your local store if you are interested. Phone numbers can be found on our Web site under Store Locations. krispykreme.com --------------------------------------- With This Doughnut I Thee Wed Krispy Kreme doughnuts have become a popular wedding reception item.
