PB, my latest theory is that IQ is directly correlated with the propensity of people to voluntarily travel. The further and faster they travel, the greater their IQ. Now, I'm not talking Lamarkian IQ in the sense that people who travel get a higher IQ. I mean people who have a higher IQ have a propensity to travel and cope with the exigencies and vicissitudes of moving and strange places. Those who can't cope, decide to stay put in Putney [which is how it got its name]. Those who can't cope, but decide to travel anyway, get filtered out of the DNA pool, leaving the high IQ people to procreate and propagate. On the 1980s research you quoted, slave drivers seem to have difficulty understanding that they are slaver-drivers. So Hawk and Unclewest think that a press-gang is a favour to the wayward young who they conscript. Welfare recipients don't understand that they are the slave-drivers, voting to confiscate their indentured serfs' labours. It is not surprising that "help the downtrodden" is rejected when the burden becomes noticeable and the downtrodden start to look like a criminal ruling class to many of the lower-paid people who work, try to raise families and live an honest life. That doesn't mean that communities are founded on anger. That is pure nonsense. Communities are founded on voluntary co-operation for mutual benefit and exchange of value. Communities are founded on love, intelligence, creativity, co-operation and driven by sex, hunger, cold, fun, curiosity, fear [the good old animal instincts]. Weirdo freak dominance hierarchy power-tripping alpha male refugees from the chimpoid zone think communities are founded on power, rules, government, taking what you want, force and fear. Since we are still largely chimpoid, they are both right. Hippie communes don't work. Saddam's system doesn't work either. Mqurice
