It's pledge time again. The latest from T.J. Lubinsky at WQED in Pittsburgh:

R&B 40: A Soul Spectacular, is an all-new PBS concert special created by TJ Lubinsky, produced and presented by WQED Pittsburgh. For the first time in history, legendary artists from America's leading R&B, Motown and Soul labels have united forces to create the first ever televised cross-gathering of Motown, Atlantic, Stax, Volt, Muscle Shoals and Philadelphia International talents from the 1960s and 1970s.

The program features new live performances from soul legends including: The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, James Brown, Sam Moore, Eddie Holman, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Fontella Bass, Percy Sledge, The Chi-Lites, Ben E. King reuniting with The Drifters, Jerry Butler reuniting with The Impressions, The Miracles reuniting with Billy Griffin, and features rare archival performances including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, The Supremes, and many more artists singing their most memorable hits.

Co-hosted by Dionne Warwick, Jerry Butler, Sam Moore and Richard "Shaft" Roundtree, this concert extravaganza was taped before live audiences at Heinz Hall on November 26 and 27, 2001.

"For us, this is the next phase in preserving our 'American Soundtrack' on PBS for the country to see," says Lubinsky, creator and executive producer of R&B 40: A Soul Spectacular.

"These are once-in-a-lifetime performances from the vocal groups and soul superstars that evolved the Doo Wop sounds into the '60s through the '70s," Lubinsky continues. "For the first time ever, the American Soul Experiences are presented for history. Where better to make this kind of cultural connection but here, in Pittsburgh."

Another great show.
