Doug angst is an OK word. But I don't think captures the essence.

hopelessness; despair, desperation; despondency (dejection)
forlorn hope immedicabile vulnus. cave of Despair enfant perdu; gloomy horizon

What will/has happen(ed) to the poor dems.

lose all hope, give up all hope, abandon all hope, relinquish all hope, lose the hope of, give up the hope of, abandon the hope of, relinquish the hope of; give up, give over; yield to despair;
forlorn; inconsolable

And of couse the dem situation is.

incurable, cureless, immedicable, remediless, beyond remedy; incorrigible; irreparable, irremediable, irrecoverable, irreversible, irretrievable, irreclaimable, irredeemable, irrevocable; ruined, undone; immitigable.

That how I see the angst and the number and volume of the lefty loons on this thread shows the depth.
