That is a case on which reasonable minds may disagree. I happen to disagree with him on that issue but I can see the rationale. JLA

Was he acting ethically and within the law when he said it was OK to listen in on client/lawyer conversations?

What he was doing was trying to make his job easier and more productive. Within the law? Not IMHO but the Courts will decide this. The Gov. of CA seems to think it's OK and he's as Dem as they get. Political pressure to achieve results or the semblance of results, (i.e.promises) is the culprit I guess. Doesn't seem to be a partisan issue yet.
