A couple I know retired in 97 with millions after having worked seven years at Microsoft investing all his money in MSFT and a lot of hers. The returns were well worth it in that case. My point is the employees probably didn't feel "forced" they felt lucky to be working for such a lucrative company until, of course, the bottom fell out.
