Constantine, Re: "hopefully by discontinuing the Duron dog and keeping up with quantispeed releases."

Half of AMD's unit sales are Durons. Despite the low prices of the Athlon, people are still demanding just as many Duron processors. How is AMD going to drop them, just like *that*?

Another interesting possibility is that if Quantispeed doesn't work out, and AMD is forced to abandon model numbers, and if there is no "value" line to take up the position of the low end, then a percentage of AMD's Athlon line could easily be demoted to fill in that position. I see the Duron is a placeholder, to prevent the Athlon from falling into the low end segment.

I'm sure AMD would dump Duron if they could. But whoops, they dug themselves into that pit when they competed on price alone, and they're going to have a hard time climbing out.
