wbmw, you guys make it sound like AMD is some puny company with no resources. They employ thousands of people, have revenues in the $billions and are known worldwide as a leader in tech.

Good argument. I think there is atleast a bit of truth in it. At the very least any but the most deluded AMD fan would have to admit that Intel usually has an advantage in OEM partnerships and has usually had better marketing.

I'm not sure that they couldn't deal with 30% sustained market share but its possible that you are right, and the factors you cite (along with production limitations) would certainly keep them from swapping positions with Intel even if they clearly had much better chips in all market segments for several years. (and if Intel let itself get in to a situation like that it would be one of the biggest business blunders to happen in my lifetime, something that a company that has done so well for so long as Intel would seem unlikely to do, it would probably only happen in Niceguy's dreams)
