SirR, the America's Cup hammering was an anti-rich attack [as far as I could tell] and pro-Maori. A general anti-Pakeha attack too.

There used to be Maoris living on Maungakiekie [One Tree Hill] before Europeans arrived. There was an old Totara on top. The mountain was abandoned as a residence [fortifications became redundant]. Some 'goth of a vandal' cut it down. I'll see if Google knows that quote... oops, silly me... Google didn't know that expression, but checking One tree hill and goth brought up the actual quote... "some goth of a settler" draw-art.co.nz ]

The guy who bought the area planted a bunch of pines as a shelter for some other trees and a couple of them survived. One of them until Mike Smith [a Maori of sorts], chainsawed it, but did a bad job and his chainsaw got stuck as the tree leaned slightly.

Now it's called Gone Tree Hill.

It's quite good without one.

PS: Tiger Woods has just been defeated in Paraparaumu after a horrific few days of putting in wind and rain and sun and cold and warm. Michael Campbell [another Maori, of sorts, is heading for victory, with a couple of holes to go]. Craig Parry, a Hobbit-like Aussie, is first equal, having been leading for a while. A 13 year old from Rotorua was only a stroke behind Tiger on the first day.

Michael Campbell just sunk a huge putt to go one ahead. Tiger finished down the leader board against a minor field of mainly NZ, Aussie and a few other small name golfers from Sweden etc. Campbell's enjoying showing off to his whanau [family group]. But Tiger is very popular here and is a great ambassador for the USA.
