Max pain is no golden goblet. But I would swear that it often seems to have an effect. It would be useful to define a max pain range, taking into account the shallowness of the curves around the max pain point and plot that against a daily chart with volume showing as well. The tendencies of stock movement might then become clearer as I think we have started a move toward max pain last week. Remember that every bit of move toward max pain means more options positions are wiped out and thus more money is retained by market makers.
