Micron made comments at a conference last week about PC makers seeing shipments exceed expectations. Here it is as reported by Reuters:

NEW YORK, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Personal computer makers now expect unit shipments for the first quarter to be about even with the fourth quarter compared with previous expectations for a 10 percent quarterly decline, a spokesman for semiconductor maker Micron Technology (NYSE:MU - news) said on Thursday.

Well I couldn't find a literal quote from Bedard and MU has not made their presentation from that conference available on their IR site, although other presenter's have. So I asked Mr Bedard to confirm what he had in fact said. Here is his literal response to me:

"PC unit shipments estimates appear to be climbing up from previous estimates of down 10% refering to calendar Q1 as opposed to CQ4. The range now seems to be more in the 0 to down 5% range. This comes from several analysts and being mentioned by our customers as well. Hope this helps."

I wonder how much of the forecast comes from analysts and how much comes from customers...
