Está podrido en plata = 'he is rotten in silver' [literally] = 'he is filthy rich' [better translation sense] ... connotation of being spoiled by the wealth as well, rarely used as compliment ... unless used on a friend, like cabrón or asshole in english, same effect Se ha quedado sin plata = 'he has left himself without silver' = 'he's broke' Yes, plata is interchangeable with dinero pretty much ... lana used as well, means literally 'wool' ... but most mexicanos are aware of the historical importance of silver to the country ... there's an edge of envy towards Perú as well, for the Potosí mines, stuff of fable ...
