Cooters,

re: Expanding the definition to wireless et al, I would say we are on the cusp of a major growth engine in wireless data.

You could be right, that may be the next thing. I was just saying that 10-12 years ago, nobody had a cell phone, now (almost) everybody does. That's not a repeatable event.

re: PS - Been down to Clearwater Beach lately?

Actually, no, a little cold here for the beach, and there is the golf course which is always calling my name.

Good luck to your Rams against the Packers. The Bucs would give them a better game (evidence earlier this year)<g>. I hope we get to keep Dungy, the man is a class act. Easy to replace a coach, harder to replace a role model.

John

Cooters, still wondering what killer app will drive flash memory use...

...in the handset market.

How about local storage of voice messages when the phone is "switched off" or silenced
in a movie theater or at a concert? Will this be enough? I am sorta doubtful.
It will be interesting to see how the Handspring TREO does. Enjoyable web browsing
will be crucial to future hybrid handset/PDA designs. Time will tell.

Regarding digital imaging, I am warming up to these MPEG and AVI movies you
can do on a digital camera. The resolution needs to improve, but there is a lot
of movie editing software out there and I think flash storage has advantages over
digital linear tape with regard to file access, copying and PC transfer. It will just
be a matter of cost. Right now digital tape is dirt cheap.
