Suburban living doesn't REQUIRE an SUV, of course. I could make do with a minivan, a station wagon, or a double cab pickup truck. -g-

Since one of the requirements is the ability to pull a trailer once in a while, the minivan and the stationwagon are out. However, I only pull a trailer maybe twice a year.

My main reason for the Disco is the ability to drive on unimproved roads into the mountains and hook up with the Appalachian trail, which minivans and stationwagons definitely can't do.

Being able to keep my cargo out of the rain and safe from theft militates against the pickup truck.

Haven't needed the four wheel drive this winter yet, but it's very nice when the roads are covered with ice.
