"What about the providers of equipment to light the fibre?" Who is going to pay them for to do that? That is the problem.

GST,

I am far from advocating buying them now. Your point about who will pay them has a lot of merit. The remaining telcos I believe are raising prices for broadband for businesses so they can afford to pay them at some future date. The incremental revenue from a wide rollout of broadband for the end consumer would although increase the revenue to needed to pay to the firms to light the fibre.

I debate the merit of lack thereof of charging businesses more for the same service as the residential consumer. I suppose that since the amount of bandwidth is not metered, there is an assumption the business will be accessing the net far more often than a residence. That may be true unless that residence has a lot of teenagers that like to create music CDs;-)
