I don't recall sensing his political leanings (but I read it several books ago). Those Rangers were the Greatest Generation personified in every way. I mentioned on the RWE thread about "The Wings of Morning," which is the book Stephen Ambrose is accused of plagiarizing from. I picked this off a Barnes and Noble remainder stack a few years ago, and it is one of the finest books I've ever read. It is about the last bomber shot down over Germany, almost on the last day of the war. The crew was from 21 on down in age, just kids, and their story is heartbreaking -- a really great read. JC
