Oh my, the screaming of quid-pro-quo would be unrelenting.

If anything this Enron situation demonstrates how serious Bush was during the campaign when he said "money will not buy special favors". They called, and his administration rebuked them. They stood by their principles in the face of their largest contributor asking for a favor.

It demonstrates that character matters, and when you give money to the right people, they handle things appropriately.

Can you imagine what Gore or Clinton would have done when Enron came calling for help. Jeez, they would have sold their soul for contributions down the road and spinned it into "we care about the employees that's why we acted".
