I agree CB. It's very tough to beat door to door private transport, even with traffic jams [which is of course why people prefer the jam to collective transport].

The Segways really zip along, but feet are really effective for under 5 minute walks [and more pleasant]. But regular 15 minute walks, where cars are too big and parking too problematic, can be a pain.

The Ka is an actual Ford small car, called Ka. I just meant that a hybrid tube vehicle would be about that size [large enough to carry a couple of people in comfort]. An SUV needs to be big for wheelbase to provide stability and passenger capacity and towing power and so on. A Ka on a freeway is noisy, unstable [maybe not as bad as some SUVs], risky [in the paper, scissors, rock game], can't tow, gutless, carries two people only etc. But a Ka around inner London or Tokyo [narrow little streets with limited parking] is fine.

A flying Ka in a tube would be fine for a couple of people.

Mass transit and central planners generally undervalue convenience and time. They think people will put their lives at the disposal of some careless bureaucrats running a slow and expensive system stopping at the wrong place. Not surprisingly, people opt for comfort and door to door service.
