Larry,

<< speaking of virus protection, my free NAV will expire in March. what would you recommend for the NAV products to purchase after free period expires - i have XP, single system, constantly connected to internet via cable modem. thanks. larry >>

I'm partial to NAV and have used it on my desktop client for years. I run McAfee on my corporate laptop now at headquarters direction, but prefer NAV. On balance, my impression is they have been quicker out of the chute with defs for new viruses.

I run it with all options including script blocking turned on and live uppdates take place seamlessly in the background.

For the last several years I have used NAV with Norton SystemWorks which bundles NAV with Norton Utilities and CleanSweep. (Latest version is 2002.05 which supports XP).

SystemWorks has a one year sub to NAV defs. for the last several years, when my sub runs out, rather than renewing I simply upgrade to the latest SystemWorks at about $40.

I also run Norton Personal Firewall but am less opinionated about firewall protection for cable or ADSL. Everyone seems happy with Zone Alarm or Zone Alarm Pro. <<
