I wonder if Musharref's speech sounds even more impressive in the original language. It's one of those things that's probably impossible to really "know" without being bilingual... but great oration really depends so much on the interplay of culture and language. I always wonder about this seeing translations of speeches in other countries (and even wonder sometimes reading the texts by Greenspan.) Does he have "speechwriters" who put the spin on things as we do in the West? "Spin" itself is an example of the kind of language concept that's probably impossible to translate cleanly to most other languages in a single word. There might at best be a word used in very similar situations, but the connotation could never be the same. It's true that rendering approximate foreign language concepts in English with a paraphrase often results in something we would never say, and that gives a feeling of the perfume of the foreign culture. It does seem like Musharref is rising to the occasion in a way that people might not have expected before the whole 9/11 thing started.
