AC - ...I don't mean to be rude, but you are also 10 years behind the curve. Large areas of China are operating essentially as an entrepreneurial capitalist society. Yes, but that doesn't mean that exports aren't heavily subsidized by government, which is the case to a larger or smaller degree for almost all countries including Japan, the US, etc. The question was a serious one, involving whether there is a real competitive advantage that would remain under true free trade, whether there is a currency exchange rate issue, or whether it is one of a number of industries that the government may be using to acquire foreign exchange to pay for its imports, Russian warships, for example.
