Keith. Although NXTL does have this spectrum in many locations, it clearly lacks the resources to actually develop this spectrum by itself. Possibly it could partner with money sources or operators in countries where it ownes spectrum if QCOM and MOT help. This spectrum represents a under utilized asset.

Barry West did say that NXTL planned to establisn Direct Connect roaming in the US. However, it was not clear thata customer located in Boston could Direct Conect with a Direct Connect customer located in CA.

The areas of the world where NXTL has an exclusive were US, Canada, Lat America and possibly others. The areas of the world and companies Berry West said that Q/MOT can market Direct Connect (while paying NXTL royalties) were Unicom, KDDI, Europe, andTelestra.

Some have said the agreement makes sense if VOD or Verizon acquires NXTL.
