Well actually American South African is a closed end fund of SA gold mining stocks, as I understand it.

ASA is the closest, an exchange traded closed end mutual fund
There's a sites called ETFconnect that has great coverage:
etfconnect.com
It has top ten holdings, past performance, discount-to-NAV history, etc...
One should note ASA is primarily a South African mining fund,
holding almost 30% of its assets in platinum shares in addition to gold shares.
