precious metals are a tricky sector
if you want simply gold stocks, then foreigns are best
but Canadian shares are not very accessible
often they are among the best
South African shares are excellent also
but who can assure that labor strikes dont hit them
just heard last night of a Canadian firm with Turkish mines

the gold group is best if currency issues become central
and soon I think they will get dicey
esp as Euro comes into the light, and US$ slips
if MidEast turmoil erupts, then gold jumps

the platinum group is best for actual industrial uses
in catalytic converters, in fuelcells
platinum absorbs 10,000 times its weight in impurities
that is why it is so desired

as for which shares, I aint an expert
I have listed several stocks before
but I am not keen on any
the best seem to be in Canadian exchanges
I stay away from SoAfrica
for political reasons, I stay close to home

ask MarginMike for gold stock advice
I think he likes Homestake, Newmont, etc, the main guys
two ways to play them
go with large guys, popular ones, and ride wave
or go with smallfries with hugely growing production and discoveries
