RR: Do you feel Ken Lay and the other key Enron execs will get the punishment they deserve..?

Its amazing how the insiders were cashing out in such a BIG WAY while the warning signs were starting to appear. Then we see Mr. Lay try to reassure his troops with emails about Enron's health. How does he sleep at night...? Think of the thousands of Enron employees that have lost jobs AND the vast majority of their retirement savings. Many of them were hard workers who trusted Mr. Lay. It really burns me when executives take advantage of the system and screw their employees and other key stakeholders along the way. I should not jump to conclusions about Mr. Lay but I have a classmate who's worked with Enron since '96 and he's validated a lot of the things we've read in the news articles. Unfortunately, he's now in a tough situation -- he lives in Houston and supports his wife & 2 kids, and has a big mortgage --> look what Enron's reckless management has done to his career and his 401-k / savings....He's very bright and will re-build but he claims he's in better shape than many of the Enron employees.

I firmly believe that management must be held accountable...Enron's auditors may also need to be severely punished. The SEC must step in and make some changes to the accounting system that is DEEPLY TROUBLED. A key issue is the independence of audit firms from their accounting clients.

Regards,

Scott
