An employee of bankrupt Enron Corp. wrote a letter to the company’s chairman Kenneth Lay in August, warning of accounting problems and a “veil of secrecy” around certain partnerships. “I am incredibly nervous that we will implode in a wave of accounting scandals,” the employee prophetically wrote.
