Why Islam Fell From Grace

Part of the answer is given in books like "How the West grew Rich".

Islam did not "Fall from Grace". It stood still while the West accelerated past it. Western Civilization is based on the "Real World" and the "Reason" of Aristotle, which, when reintroduced to the West, allowed a society to be built in which Isaac Newton could publish "The Principia" in 1687. This Newtonian Integration of Physics led to the Industrial Revolution.

As Bernard Lewis points out, When Napoleon showed up with a modern army in Egypt in 1798, Islam realized that they no longer could defeat the West. But their religion would not let them adapt.

On the other hand, Japan adapted almost at once when they finally ran into Western Civilization.
