Iron Mountain Places EMC Storage Infrastructure At Core of Digital Archives
Records Management Services Leader Relies on EMC Networked Storage to Ensure Access and Availability for Digital Archives, Manage Complex IT Environment and Reduce Costs
biz.yahoo.com
HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 2002-- EMC Corporation and Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE: IRM), the leader in outsourced records and information management services, today announced that Iron Mountain has selected EMC networked information storage systems and software to help manage Iron Mountain's Digital Archives infrastructure. Iron Mountain chose EMC's storage solutions for their advanced architecture and feature-rich software, as well as their data security and ability to control the management costs associated with rapidly growing information.

Business trends, such as the growing use of electronic records in the legal discovery process, and new and emerging regulations, such as SEC Rule 17a-4, dictate specific archiving and retention requirements for electronic documents. Global 2000 companies look to Iron Mountain's Digital Archives to provide a low-cost, compliant, long-term preservation solution to safeguard the information over time and to preserve electronic records for decades.

``When it came to selecting the critical components of our new Digital Archives e-records management service, EMC was the natural storage choice,'' said Kevin Roden, Iron Mountain's CIO, who noted the cost efficiencies that an EMC networked storage infrastructure provides. ``EMC is the industry leader in storage management. We have seen through our traditional business that the advanced architecture of EMC systems and software makes it cost-efficient to grow our information infrastructure. Our EMC information storage capacity has nearly tripled in the past three years, yet the costs associated with managing this information have essentially stayed the same. As we develop new digital business, this capacity and flexibility is essential to our success.''

``In the world of records management, Iron Mountain is synonymous with safety and security,'' said Jim Rothnie, EMC's Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. ``In the world of information storage, where data must be accessible and available to the customer instantaneously, EMC is synonymous with safety and security. By providing EMC's critical technology solutions to Iron Mountain's Digital Archives service, we ensure that when an Iron Mountain customer needs its archived information, the inquiry is processed quickly - anywhere, anytime, all the time.''

Peter Delle Donne, President of Iron Mountain Digital Archives Division, added, ``As we started discussing the Digital Archives technology infrastructure requirements with EMC, we realized that EMC and Iron Mountain have a significant number of customers in common. The optimal e-record lifecycle would combine EMC's on-site systems that support daily business operations with Iron Mountain's Digital Archives service to create a cost-effective, compliant lifecycle solution for the customer.''

EMC Throughout the Enterprise

Iron Mountain, based in Boston, MA, has standardized on EMC, placing the storage leader at the core of its IT infrastructure. Over the past year, Iron Mountain has implemented more than 10 terabytes of EMC Symmetrix. For their Digital Archives division, EMC Celerra networked-attached storage systems will provide a high availability environment for Iron Mountain's File Shares and Home Services. Iron Mountain has also implemented EMC's storage management software including EMC Control Center, EMC TimeFinder, ESN Manager and SRDF to help ensure performance, availability, disaster recovery and overall efficient management of the company's core infrastructure.
