dave rose, Up until the time JFK was elected, there was still a large contingency of Conservative Democrats who had the ability to think for themselves, and did not lean so far to the left. Kennedy was working on a liberal regime, but much to any Americans chagrin, was assassinated. None of the Republicans that I knew at the time, wished for such a terrible thing to happen to any American President, regardless of who he may be, or what his political stand were. Even though LBJ was a crook of the vilest nature, he slowed down the leftward trend of the Democrat party, and that continued under Carter. It was not until Clinton came along, with his leanings toward the USSR, as indicated by his visit to Moscow during the height of the cold war, and his hatred of the military. He could not depend on the military to carry out his every wish, because by and large, military men are patriots, and believe in the concept of rugged individualism.

Liberals let on opportunity to attack Bush, because they fear him. He is in a position to cause their march toward Socialism to come to a halt. That would be disastrous for the liberal cause, and the chance of losing their grip on the masses creates panic in their minds.
