You are in good company......

Of all the creatures that were made, man is the most detestable. Of the entire brood he is the only one--the solitary one--that possesses malice. That is the basest of all instincts, passions, vices--the most hateful. He is the only creature that has pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. Also--in all the list he is the only creature that has a nasty mind.
- Mark Twain's Autobiography

I still believe that a truly contented, stable person would never go looking for others to diminish. Nor would he find it edifying to be part of a group that takes pleasure in denigrating others. When I see it here on SI, I just find myself thinking that there is a person to avoid.

As Coug wisely says, shunning is the best response-- not to be hurtful but to protect one's own integrity (and sanity).

Wow. I don't claim to know what happened, but here's an opinion that may or may not shed some light -- at least to the extent that whatever bad thing happened was an e-mail thing. I honestly believe that most online rude, basher types aren't really that way in real life. Many of them are more cowardly in the flesh, where they have to face their victims directly. Additionally, for some reason the cyber world seems to embolden the weakest minds among us to become would-be bully's. The internet is a sort of punching bag for many frustrated emotionally-weak individuals, where they seek to excise their frustrations. It's like they try to be the person online that they cannot be in real life. People who normally wouldn't be cruel or mean often are the most insensitive jerks online. At least that's what I've seen time and time again. It does not excuse it though, just a possible explanation for some of it. Sometimes it helps me to understand and remember this. That's all...
