DJ Australia's Normandy -2: Newmont Has Higher Offer

MELBOURNE (Dow Jones)--Australia's Normandy Mining Ltd. (A.NDY) Tuesday said it is continuing to recommend shareholders accept a takeover bid from U.S.-based Newmont Mining Corp. (NEM) rather than a rival offer from South Africa's AngloGold Ltd. (AU).

With AngloGold's bid due to close Friday, following its decision to extend its offer, Normandy' directors said they felt obliged to update shareholders of their recommendation.

"The one week extension of AngloGold's offer hasn't affected the Normandy board's opinion in relation to the Newmont offer," Normandy said.

Normandy noted that following U.S. share trading Monday, Newmont's share and cash offer values Normandy at A$1.98 a share compared with AngloGold's share and cash offer of A$1.95 a share.
