ted, Faith based belief(religion) is not the same a fact based speculation. I have no belief in aliens at this time so no faith needed in their existence. With such a long timeline any possible visits will not occur frequently and we might have had one 200 million years ago or 2 billion when we were pretty much lifeless, but a departing alien spit out the window and we arose from the bugs he left behind.(the common panspermia concept is a little like this, free floating spores eventually float all over the place and land here and there?.) Many such potentil life forms may have decided that it is a waste of time. We have politicians like that. If the results are more than the next election away they will not do it. A craft sent at great cost that will not produce an answer for 1000 years is not going to get an appropriation in the US Congress, and that is the turn around time for a place 5 light years away at 1/100 C. Going further costs you extra. It would take quite a long term view. Of course other races may have longer lives or slower clock ticks they live by. Bill Bill

Bill, you have developed a construct that makes plausible the possibility that aliens are among us. Religious people are also capable of developing a construct supporting their belief that God exists. Believe that aliens are among us probably does require faith (atleast I have seen no evidence of it), but believing that they exist only requires rational speculation. Of course aliens could exist without ever coming within 100,000 light years of earth so there could be a whole lot of aliens without any of them being "among us" Tim
