I agree that God is not "locked into" anything but perhaps for a different reason. The reason is that there is nothing that God is not so there is nothing "into" which God can be "locked".

I'm also very aware of the implications of this choice of worldview. Yes, I do not choose to kill my neighbor but not because I fear some divine retribution but because such action would not reflect Who I Am or Who I Choose to Be. If I choose to know that We Are All One then I would no more kill my neighbor than I would cut off a limb. If I truly take this view then to love my neighbor as I love myself becomes not simply a moral exhortation but an observation of the reality that we share.

One needs to distinguish between punishment and consequences. Punishment is based on the notion of retribution while consequences are the natural result of any choice. If I step off the roof of a building, my fall is a consequence of that action. It is not gravity "punishing" me for doing something "wrong". Those who believe in karma would suggest that if I kill someone in this life I may find myself killed in another and that this "balances out" my transgression, but I do not subscribe to this view.

Ask yourself, can God be harmed? If not, then what is there to judge? Even in human courts to bring charges one must show that a harm has occurred. If there is no harm there is no case. Therefore I choose to let go of all fear when it comes to God. And if I can so choose with God then how can I not so choose with man?
