FONAR NEWS ! FONAR Stand-Up MRI Goes Live in Islandia; Extensive Media Campaign Plan

Business & Health Editors

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BW HealthWire)--Jan. 16, 2002--Fonar Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The Patient-Friendly(TM) MRI Company, announced that
Indomitable(TM), The Stand-Up MRI(TM) has been installed in the Islandia Center on Long Island, New York and is now scanning patients.
It is the first diagnostic imaging center managed by FONAR's subsidiary, Health Management Corporation of America (HMCA), a physician and diagnostic services management company, to be upgraded with the Stand-Up MRI(TM).
Raymond V. Damadian, M.D., president and chairman of FONAR, said,
"We are implementing an aggressive local advertising campaign to reach referring doctors and the general public, informing them that this
break-though MRI technology is now available. We expect this facility to be a model of success for our other HMCA centers, and also a powerful tool for the FONAR Sales Department. We're very optimistic."
The Stand-Up MRI(TM) is the only whole-body MRI in the industry that can scan patients standing or sitting, as well as in all the
horizontal positions. All other whole-body MRIs can only scan patients lying in a horizontal position. The ability to scan patients in an
upright posture allows human anatomy and function to be observed under normal weight-bearing conditions.
"Because of the unique configuration of the Stand-Up MRI(TM), for
the first time," said Dr. Damadian, "the patient can assume whatever the position is that causes the problem. That's precisely the position you want the patient to be in when you make your image, not when the patient is lying down and the pain or symptoms might disappear altogether."
The Stand-Up MRI(TM) is also an extraordinarily patient-friendly scanner since there is nothing in front of their faces or over their heads that might induce claustrophobic reactions. Patients find that sitting for their scans is comfortable and enjoyable. They watch
television during the scan on a TV mounted on the scan room wall.
The Stand-Up MRI(TM) is now the best selling unit in the FONAR product line. General Electric Medical Systems is a manufacturer's
representative for the product.
