I'm not sure. My guess is that whoever it is, the nominee will have to be pretty "moderate" to have a good chance at winning in the land of flakes and nuts....

Contenders for Gov. of CA are Sec of State Bill Jones who will have money and name recognition problems, not to mention a totally bland personality(not unlike Davis); Bill Simon, a wealthy businessman who is the son of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, has some personality, lots of money and some party backing among the straights; and the former mayor of LA Thomas Riordan who is a leftist by Republican standards for his pro-choice anti-gun views, not unlike NY mayor Michael Bloomberg, has money, name recognition. This will be a tough choice for Republicans, IMO between Simon and Riordan. Simon has an advantage in being less known, IMO.
