Petz, Re: "AMD will lower their model ratings before Hammer launches to match better with the reality that is Northwood"
Where do you get this malarkey?

Simple. I simply don't think that Hammer will be more than 13% faster than a 3.0GHz Northwood, which is what would be necessary to justify a model 3400+ rating. Due to better scaling on Intel processors (as proven by AMD's own measurements), Northwood should begin getting far better returns per 100MHz than AMD will with 100 model numbers. By the time Intel gets to 3.0GHz, they will have had a sizable performance advantage over any K7 product, even one labeled with a model 3000+ core (assuming AMD can even get high enough in megahertz to justify that label). While I am expecting a sizable increase in performance from Hammer, I think that model 3400+ is far too aggressive for them.

Re: "Benchmark comparisons of the 2000+ vs. the NW2200 show that the 2000+ is, if anything, conservatively rated."

You have many benchmarks to support the model 2000+ Athlon XP as rated a at 2100, but not all benchmarks agree. In order for AMD to gain credibility, they need to push their performance (hence the + in their ratings), well beyond Intel's megahertz. All Intel needs is a few benchmarks that don't meet up to AMD's claims to cry for a foul.

Re: "PC World even found that a 1900+ was faster than the NW 2200."

I would expect an AMDroid like yourself to throw out the only review where this held true. In most or all of the other reviews, the 2.2GHz Pentium 4 came out ahead of the Athlon XP 2000+ in the majority of tests.
