Re: The Gateway 700XL is bursting with high-end technologies: the all-new Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.20 GHz processor , an enormous 120GB hard drive, an expansive 18.1-inch (viewable) flat-panel display, a DVD-Rewritable drive, and 1GB of memory.

Looks like a pretty fair mid-range machine.

We buy high end machines with Dual AthlonMP 1800+ CPUs, 80 gig hard drives, 1 gig of DDR, and Pioneer DVR-A03 DVD recorders. They also have Matrox dual head video cards (G550) and Viewsonic 19" TFT LCD monitors, all for a little over $3,700.

Monica,

"Editors' Choice" award from PC Magazine for its new Gateway 700XL, the most advanced desktop PC ever sold nationally.

BTW, this is not what PC Magazine said. "The most advanced ever" is just a Gateway marketing BS. The article was just a routine comparison of 4 2.2 GHz NW processor based machines, so it's not a surprise that a 2.2 GHz NW won.

It looks like a regular machine, a bit overpriced. But on the other hand, it comes with One year America Online® Internet Access (New members only. Additional phone charges may apply. Click here for details. gateway.com

Gateway must have had a really big ad in that issue.
