The idea that we should treat the prisoners with compassion is one I don't understand. They wouldn't have treated any prisoners they had with compassion and kid gloves.

At some point things become absurd. I don't think we should be beating them, but I also don't think we should be making things comfortable for them. Their aim was to bring down civilization as we (all) know it. They treated their own people terribly. These are sick really bad people. They're not just frat boys who drank too much, and got carried away.

This should be a matter of fact exercise, no "feel good" emotions at all. Crapping around with them sends a very negative message to the world. Treating them the way we are sends a different message. One that says "we mean business, the game playing days are over".

As far as us being maybe too overbearing to the rest of the world, so what?

The entire world has benefited and benefits from our existence, even if we benefit more than they do. Life spans have increased, because of science and medicine. I doubt if anyone can argue that there is another country that contributed more than the U.S. in this area. Vaccines, antibiotics, technological equipment.

The entire electronic age we're in now is probably because of the U.S. and capitalism. Computers would still be the size of refrigerators if the U.S. wasn't here.

We make mistakes, sure...but IMO we don't mean to. We give charitably to every country in the world whenever there is a catastrophy. Why didn't the arab nations step in and stop the Taliban in afgan? They knew what was going on there. How much help are they offering to afgan now that it looks like the Taliban are finished there?

The reality is that with all of the U.S. faults, the world is a better place for us being here, and if we didn't do the things we did, mankind would really be in a mess, far worse than it is.
