rule out the use of cause and effect
I don't rule out cause and effect on a grand scale. If you drop a pitcher and it breaks you can pretty much say that the picture broke because it was dropped. What you cant' say is that if you drop an identical pitcher the contents and pieces will all splash the same way that they did before. This precludes chaining causes to effect to next effect and so on until you get the final effect you are looking for. That type of chain is time dependant, it works going backward in time, but not going forward.
