I assume that the data in the demo version is delayed in some way? The time I was on and trying it today, the market has been so flat that it is hard to tell...

I have not run the demo in eons, but I think it is either delayed or simulated.

Several people on the discussion threads mentioned problems with the market data falling behind the actual market (as shown on an outside market data feed) on the TWS platform. However, they went on to say that the order system is independent of the market data and fills will match the data as shown on a reliable outside market data feed.

I've not noted lag, but I only trade futures with IB. I think its quite possible that stock data may lag.

I run a RealTick III setup for market data. I just wanted to confirm that this is indeed true...i.e. I should watch market data on my RealTick setup and place orders on IB, regardless of what the IB market data says?

I guess. I base all my entries off of bar charts and am relying on the bars on my charts to be accurate. So if I place a Stop Limit order to enter a position, when the market gets there I'm confident that IB will transmit the order. Again in futures there have been so few problems - in fact long ago when I ran Quote.com as one of my feeds, I constantly checked IB to get the accurate price, not the other way around.

As always, your mileage may vary, and it makes sense to be comfortable with the setup before risking real dollars.

And beware of death spikes in the futures if that's your game!
