They were great men who gave their lives for rich old men who needed to have young courageous men killed. Is that better? Implied...they fought for men who needed to have them killed! Would you fight for old men who needed you killed? Willingly? I can't help it if you're a sloppy thinker and writer. Maybe you could have mentioned you thought they were duped but you didn't.
