We had to swear to allies like Turkey and Saudi Arabia that Iraq would not be partitioned by the Kurds and the Shi'ites, in order to get the cooperation we needed. If we had marched on Baghdad, we would have had to occupy and put down the Kurds and Shi'ites ourselves in order to make good on the promise. No one wanted that, and, in the end, the public wouldn't have cared for it either. Anyway, my wife is finally home. I am getting off the box. Take care!
