If he hasn't done anything wrong, then what can anyone do that is wrong?

You know, this isn't something I really want to spend much time thinking about. I'm just at the computer, on my way to bed and I find these posts from you. Sorry to get you worked up very much when I don't really care.

As for Walker, I'm simply convinced that the injustice of the world will be little affected by what happens with him. I can make a case that he's just a kid working through identity issues in a particularly dangerous fashion and that the punishment should be in accord with that, but I would not wish to keep working on that argument with you.

Now if you wanted to discuss Edward Said with me, that's another question (g). Though you would have to stand in line behind Nadine for that one.

John

FWIW, I think you are exactly right and you are asking exactly the right question. And I think Ashcroft's comments hit the nail right on the head.

We were all kids once. We all went through roughly the same "ordeals". We all made stupid choices of one kind or another. But most of us did not knowingly and deliberately align ourselves with terrorist groups and take up arms against the citizens of this nation. If we are willing to excuse that or dismiss it simply as wild oats, we may as well stop pretending to hold anyone responsible for anything.
