Hawk_ We DO conduct our foreign policy in our own best interests. And that's how it should be. Anyone that doesn't understand that is suicidal.

Why the Isrealies did what they did, I don't believe we'll ever know. It had to be the one of stupidist things that man has ever done.

I think if we knew what happened to the people that ordered it or approved it would shed some light on the incident.

Hawk,
There's one thing we do know for sure about the Liberty -- the incident happened 34 years ago. Why are we talking about it now?

It seems like one of those incidents that the Arabs and conspiracy theorists keep around to throw in Israel's face. Sounds like diversionary tactic to me.

- on the issue of the USS Liberty - & why Israel bombed it - I think it just shows how inept & incompetent all levels of Gov't are - including the military

- there was absolutely no reason for it except total ineptitude

- I compare the USS Liberty to the US helicopter shot down in the Iraqui no-fly zone a few years ago - despite fly-bys - several confirmations - etc... we still shot down one of our own
