I take it from your response that you cannot think of a single common task that To the contrary, all what I do is of that type. I spend most of the time doing scientific computations, document processing (using a package that is not bit-based) and performing simulations on a mock search engines. The CPU usage of these systems ranges from seconds for document formating to days of CPU time for the search engine tests. Very few operations in these algorithms can be vector improved.
