Man, Im sorry. Here's the vocabulary CDU - Christian-democratic union - largest opposition party. Kohl for instance was its president and long-time chancellor, when CDU was in the saddle CSU - Christian-Social Union - little, or at least smaller twin sister, limited to Bavaria, with firm grip on the state, since I guess Romans gave up and went back to Italy. CDU does not interfere in Bavaria and CSU reciprocates by not branching out to other parts of Germany. CDU/CSU leads in polls over SPD (social democrats)/greens, which are the governing coalition at the federal level since 1998. Stoiber is a) the top gun in Bavaria (thus in CSU) and b) Minister president of Bavaria (something like state governor). His counterpart in CDU (at least from the party line) is Angela Merkel and she graciously (..opinions on that differ of course..) let Stoiber climb into the driving seat in spite of the fact the number of seats in Bundestag must be somewhere at 1 to 4 or more in favour of CDU. Not that all this would be of any consequence. OTOH we need to do something before the market opens; dj
