Excellent article, thanks for posting it. I used to hear that kind of stuff about the ILECs all the time from WinStar reps. What is interesting to me, as an investor, is how to take advantage of this situation. I have been spending a couple of years watching a company slowly making progress with their automated cross-connect solutions (NHC Communications). This technology is used to automate the physical layer, enabling telcos to provision services more quickly and with fewer truck rolls. NHC has completed FOAs with two US ILECs, said to be VZ and BLS and orders are expected (or at least, being prayed for) this year. Is anyone else watching this space? I see it as a Last Mile Technology in that one of their products is a remote terminal that will enable DSL to be extended further out from the CO.
