Some folks who got the packages cannot file, since the companies took away their filing rights once they took the package.

I expect next unemployment report to be very bad. Here in California many folks laid off in 2001 waited to file after Jan 6 2002. They should start showing up starting next week. In addition to that a new massive wave of layoffs is coming in high tech. Increase in demand for their products they have been waiting for has not materialized. Many startups are running out the money. They do layoffs and reduce salary to remaining guys at the same time.
